Poverty Today: ENGLCOM-W Diagnostic Test Essay

Title: Poverty Today
Main Idea: What to do to rise against poverty. What is it?

It is quite common among the cities, that particular state that brings every person to their demise when they finally sink down to it. Centuries ago, the Filipinos fought against the oppression, abuse, and racial discrimination of Spain for their freedom from it – poverty. Every citizen of a country has his or her right to utilize its resources. But with the fast-paced economic growth of other countries, the Philippines strives hard to catch up; and thus, leaving many of its children behind in poverty.
Poverty is a state wherein a large number of people struggle to sustain their daily needs with barely enough money or resources. It is a state or condition seen in almost all countries, especially those in East Asia. Families starve, children are left to fend for themselves in the streets and criminal acts are done by people who are stuck in poverty as it is, for them, their last option. And although the government fight hard to stop this growing problem an do try hard to help, people still wonder why with all the support, programs and help being given to them are they still suffering this ill fate. Many shout the word corruption – that their leaders hoard all the government funds to themselves. Maybe they’re right, considering the latest impeachment trial of Philippines’ very own Chief Justice Corona for his four dollar accounts. But they themselves also appointed these leaders during the elections, so why blame them if you chose them yourself?
What I would like to point out is that they – we should stop blaming others for our misfortune. If we are knocked down to poverty by these people, then we should stand in our own two feet and rise. From our history as Filipinos, we not only achieved freedom from wars or revolts or even words. We gained our freedom through strengthening our hearts and doing our best to rise. And this is what I urge my fellow Filipinos of today to do. Lower your prides and strengthen your hearts.

  1. I like the idea of your essay. You gave supporting details to the main idea. The title was a bit bland though. You should think of a more creative title but still the essay was nice. Good job mate.
